HTTPS is an abbreviation for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. It is used as a security measure when customers need to enter sensitive personal information online.
Personal and sensitive information can be name, address, email and credit card information that the customer must enter in order to make a purchase on a website or sign up for the newsletter. Once your website has https, your visitors will see a closed, green padlock with the word Secure displayed next to it in the address bar of the browser.
If you have https installed on your website or webshop, Google will see your site as secure. There is also the possibility that it will rank you higher than your competitors if they have not yet added https. A higher ranking can create increased revenue.
If you have to switch from http to https, remember to have all your pages redirected. If not, this will be seen as duplicate content by Google, and this can damage your SEO ranking/position.
Contact your CMS supplier to get the switch to https or talk to us first.
