Implement your tracking with Google Tag Manager

GTM is a tool from Google that allows tracking and scripts to be implemented on a website, without touching the code directly (except for the one-time initial implementation, of the tool itself.) It’s often used to implement tracking scripts to third party analytics and marketing platforms, such as Google Analytics, Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta, LinkedIn etc.

Why use Google Tag Manager?

There’s quite a few benefits of using GTM (Google Tag Manager), instead of having tracking and scripts implemented directly on the site or through other tools (plugins/apps/modules). Below we have listed some of the most important benefits.
It allows you to manage, monitor and organize all tracking scripts to multiple tools and platforms in one place, instead of having it implemented in different places, such as directly in the script or through plugins/apps/modules. This makes it way easier for everybody involved (developers, analytics experts, marketing etc.) to have access and a clear overview of everything implemented. Otherwise you could spend hours searching for scripts, when needed.
There’s no need to wait for developers or the IT department to first of all have the time, and second of all figure out how and where to implement each script. You can speed up the entire process by having your analytics specialists and/or marketers implement new tracking when needed. This will not only save you time and money in regards to implementation, if tracking is needed to launch specific campaigns, they can be up and running way faster.
GTM has a quite easy, intuitive and user friendly interface, which is helpful for everybody that’s not a developer or analytics specialist. You do need to be careful (especially in regards to privacy) and have some knowledge when implementing tracking through GTM as well, but it does simplify the implementation process (which saves time and money) and give you a clear and easy overview of everything implemented.
GTM supports multiple users and simplifies collaboration across teams. Everybody with access to the GTM account, has access and the ability to implement tracking, without having access to the entire backend of your website. Your developers will appreciate this, since it’s safer, especially if there are several co-workers that need to implement tracking or scripts.
GTM loads asynchronously on your website – this means that it doesn’t block other content from loading, which will improve the page load time. There’s only 1 GTM script that needs to be loaded, instead of 10, 20 or 30+ scripts, if implemented separately.
If something goes wrong, you can easily revert to an earlier version since all changes are saved in history. This saves you a lot of time and headache if needed. It’s also great to keep track of your history and previous implementation, if an issue is tracked back in time. All changes are saved with date, the co-worker that published it (email), and the possibility to leave notes.
Since you have the version control possibility, you will save lots of time if issues occur. You also have a debugging option, which makes it possible to test out the scripts before launching and going live on the site. This itself will save you a lot of time and headache.
