Instagram’s chronological feed returns in 2022

Right now, Instagram is testing new versions of their feed. Throughout 2021, there has been a lot of talk about how Instagram’s feed presents the content to the user through their algorithm. One thing is for sure – Instagram is working to bring back the chronological feed. Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, explains that they are expecting that the rollout will take place at the beginning of the year 2022.

Over the past year, Instagram has changed the algorithm to organize the feed content for the user according to what it deems the user would like to see based on previous interaction. However, this has not been a convincing change, and people has been missing the chronological feed, where you are more exposed to the content of everyone you follow.

Instagram is working on two versions of the chronological feed

The team behind Instagram is working on creating different options for Instagram’s users, so that the user can choose how they will be presented for their content in the feed. One of the versions of the chronological feed will be based on the fact that you can choose your favorites, which will then appear at the top of the feed in chronological order. The other option will let the user view all posts from the people that the person follows in chronological order.

Instagram describes that they want to make it clear that they are working on different versions, so that users can have more choices and get the experience that they like the most. So if you do not miss the chronological feed, then fear not – there should also be options that offer a solution like the one that currently exists. Mosseri makes it clear that the organization does not phase out its algorithmic feed completely, but that it should instead be more like the medium Twitter, where the user is offered various options on the platform.
